Grass Stains invades the Mudhens turf
On 15 August past, it was a bit of a long, out of State wagon ride to Toledo, Ohio for the Wahoo’s of Royal Oak, to take on the Great Black Swamp Frogs of Sylvania. As most of this summer has been, it was another hot, humid afternoon, and the field was rather hard and sun baked, as well as very sloped.
The mascots from the Toledo Mudhens, as well as many cranks from the Lutheran Home, and those that traveled from Michigan, were on hand to watch the match.
Not to waste any time this day, the Wahoo’s tallied 4 aces in the 1st inning to take the lead. Because of many fine defensive plays by both Clubs, especially “Hammer”, roving the field for Royal Oak, the score remained 4-0 through 5 innings. The 2 teams left many runners on the sacks, with the Swamp Frogs leaving the most. Both Clubs were also very fatigued from the heat, and it seemed to effect the striking, as well as running up and down hill on the sacks. In the 6th inning, the Club from Sylvania were able to gather the strength to tally 2 aces to make it an even closer match at 4-2. The Wahoo’s worked hard to come back with 1 tally in the 7th

inning to stretch their lead a bit. Despite both “Nines” threatening to score more in the 8th & 9th innings, nothing came of it and the Final count of aces was 5-2 in favor of the Wahoo’s.
Frankfurters and cold beverages were enjoyed by all after the match, and very much appreciated. These 2 evenly skilled Clubs will meet again in Royal Oak, Michigan on 25 September. Should be another fine Match.
Hope to see you there !
